Château du Hallier

Nibelle owes its name to a demonstration of love from Charles IX... Legend has it that the king of France may have offered the château to his mistress with the words "Voici votre nid Belle..." ("Here is your nest, my beauty.."). Built in 1544 by Charles de l'Hospital, with brick and stone curtain walls restricted by ten large towers, the Château du Hallier is an interesting example of a transition from fortified château to residence of leisure. A veritable cosy nest! The château was also home to the lovers, Henry IV and Henriette d'Entragues.
