Jehan de Meung
1260-1320
The poet nicknamed Clopinel was born in Meung-sur-Loire to a wealthy noble family, and subsequently died in Paris. He studied science, but his greatest gift was for poetry.
At the request of Philippe Le Bel, he undertook in 1280 to write a second part to the 'Roman de la Rose', adding several new songs and a total of 18,000 lines.
