Androuet du Cerceau
Born in Orléans around 1510
This artist's architectural engravings are his greatest achievement.
He published runs of engravings at Orléans, then treatises such as 'The Finest Buildings in France'. Orléans owes two houses to him, and at Montargis he was responsible for the chancel in the Eglise de la Madeleine. In his architectural family, his son and brother worked together on the Grande Galerie in the Louvre, on the Pont-Neuf in Paris and on the Tuileries. |
